Speaking to RTÉ LifeStyle at the launch of RTÉ One in Dublin's Smock Alley Theatre, he said: "It's a vast, enormous complicated country with an extraordinary story with loads of contradictions, lots of sadness and lots of progress."
He said the experience was "...very mind-bending, mind-altering but satisfying because its a good news story."
He added: "Up until recently many [locals] would have to walk ten miles with a bucket on their head to get water. GOAL come along, take a pipe, bring a pipe down [to their village] and they now have tap water."
The message that he wants to share now is very clear: "The key thing I really want to say is, and I've been thinking about this since I came back, when you give money to a charity like GOAL it's going somewhere."
