The popular shop, located on the corner of Upper George's Street in Dun Laoghaire, opposite the People's Park, is now in it's fifth season of showcasing the various wares of local talents.

This week the collective have opened shop again to showcase their new collections in Park House for a seven week stint, running from March 15th until the May Bank Holiday (May 6th).

Inspired by their coastal surroundings, there is a distinct maritime theme running through many of the designers' collections, which include jewellery, kitchen utensils, ceramics, toys and cards.

Design Corner shoppers will be the first to see the new collections, with the designers themselves doubling up as sales assistants and readily available to talk you through the perfect purchase and answer any questions customers may have about their design process or vision.

The designers

Among the seventeen designers are jewellers Ali Nash, Vivien Walsh and Melanie Hand. Nash has had extensive coverage in the Irish fashion press with colourful, creative collections with an international twist, while Vivien Walsh's intricate costume jewellery and Hand's delicate pieces are both great for Summer weddings, or indeed a Spring bride.

Another designer of note is Tara Hammond with her exceptionally popular 'Slated' gifts and tableware. Featured in books and series by chef Neven Maguire, a fellow champion of Irish skill and talent, Hammond's repetoire spans the kitchen, dining room and garden with an array of beautiful, handmade slate items steeped in Irish history.

Customer favourites return again this season with Killiney Arts Ceramics, Cathy White's Vintage Handbags and Christina Sanne, whose playful, personalised Sock Dogs have gone down a treat, all returning with new collections.

Three new designers have also come on board this year - Martin Kennedy Ecomelts, eco-friendly candles and Fán Regan of Fawn Printing.

Direct connectivity, supporting local

“The Design Corner is all about direct connectivity with the makers and their work," Suzanne May, project manager of The Design Corner Network, said. "It’s a great opportunity for the makers to launch new work. We know that our loyal customers love the fact that they get the first opportunity to see new work from the designers”.

The Design Corner is open from 10am to 6pm Monday to Saturday and from 11am to 6pm on Sundays and Bank Holidays.

The team have set up a Facebook page and are also on Twitter. Further information can be found at
