Celebrating Good Causes: This Donegal surf club is changing the lives of kids in the community

The National Lottery Good Causes Awards honour the inspiring work thousands of projects, clubs and individuals from all over Ireland do each and every day.

This year, RTÉ has teamed up with the National Lottery to showcase some of these good causes.

Like Donegal based volunteer organisation, Liquid Therapy, nominated in the 'Sport & Recreation' category.

Liquid Therapy provide one-on-one support to young people who want to experience surfing, but are unable to participate in mainstream opportunities.

They work with kids who have physical, mental, intellectual and other barriers to participation.

They believe that everybody should be able to benefit from the therapeutic experience that is the ocean and provide one-on-one classes, water therapy and lessons.

Each category winner will receive €10,000 and the overall Good Cause of the Year will receive an additional €25,000. The winners will be announced at a Gala Awards Dinner on November 2.

Last year, more than €228 million was raised by participants of National Lottery games all over the country for good causes. This equates to about €625,000 a day. On average there are approximately 4,000 beneficiaries that receive funding each year.
