Hi there! I'm Siún - a.k.a. The Healthy Spoon. I initially started my Instagram account a couple of years ago to track my own progress with weight loss and training. I became obsessed with the gym and with clean eating, which at the time I thought was great. I got into the best shape of my life and then after a year I realised I had completely sacrificed my personal life. Since then I have had a huge change in priorities. Now I am a big advocate of living a healthy and balanced lifestyle without fads and extremes. My passion is cooking so I now spend a lot of my time creating new recipes which I share on my blog.

The Healthy Spoon

Who are you and what do you do?

I am a 26-year-old girl from Cork and I am currently a trainee solicitor with a commercial law firm in Dublin.

Why do you do what you do?

There is massive pressure these days on us all to look and act a certain way and social media has only increased these pressures.

Most of us are following fit, fabulous and beautiful people on social media and this can lead to very negative behaviour such as unrealistic dieting, obsessive exercising and comparing ourselves to others.

I do what I do because I think we all need constant reminders that who we are is absolutely good enough and that in order to be healthy and happy you do not need to resort to extremes such as calorie counting, macro tracking, and training every day.

Describe your audience.

My followers are mainly girls who are trying to live a healthy, happy life. They are hugely supportive and very kind and I feel blessed to have a following with absolutely no negativity at all (which is quite unusual for the Internet these days!) I share the good and the bad with them and receive such kind feedback for which I am so grateful.

What's your media diet?

I always check BBC news in the morning as well as Snapchat and Instagram.

Who are three people you respect?

Oh God, only three? I have to start with Ellen Degeneres. Anyone who knows me knows that I am absolutely obsessed with her. She is a massive advocate of being kind and compassionate to one another and we need more people like her in the world!

Ina Garten is another person I have great respect for. She gave up her job and bought a speciality food store and has achieved massive success since then. It takes real courage to do something like that and I have huge respect for her.

Finally, Itzhak Perlman. At the age of four, he was hospitalised and nearly died from polio. He regained the full use of his arms after a year of recovery and is one of the greatest violinists in the world.

What excites you right now and why?

I have just begun a completely new chapter in my life which is scary but also exciting. I have just moved from London to Dublin, have just started a new job and am recently single after a 4-year relationship. All this means everything in my life is new right now. Although it can be a little overwhelming it is also exciting and I can't wait to see what life has in store for me.

What has your proudest post been?

If you had asked me last year, I would have said my transformation picture. However, that isn't as important to me anymore. Now I am proud of the posts which have helped people. I often get messages from people saying that something I have written has inspired them or has helped them and those messages make me so happy - it's why I do what I do.

What channels are your favourite and why?

I love Instagram because of its supportive environment, I especially like the #irishfitfam community. Everyone is so kind and supportive of each other and I think that is so important these days. I also love Snapchat because I think it gives us a greater and more realistic view of people's lives.

Tell us a secret - something we should know about you?

I am very shy and very sensitive. I love travelling. I speak French. I have a real chocolate obsession. Christmas is my favourite thing in life (sorry friends and family)! I play the violin and I seriously considered studying music before I decided to study law.

What's the master plan?

As a trainee solicitor, I am excited to quality as a lawyer after all the hard work put in over the years. Aside from that, I dream of being a food author. I would love to have my own cookery books or cookery program one day.

I love watching my favourite chefs like Rachel Allen and Ina Garten and I would absolutely love to be as successful as them one day.

I wrote an Ebook of my recipes recently which was my first step towards this dream. The Healthy Spoon Ebook may not be a printed cookery book but it is something I am so proud of (especially as I can barely use a computer and somehow managed to do it all myself).
