We've come a long way from the days of Instagram accounts for Paul Mescal's Normal People character, specifically for Connell's chain, not least Mescal himself, who has made a dazzling debut at the Cannes Film Festival 2022.

The Maynooth native made an entrance for his first Cannes Film Festival, walking the red carpet in a sleek black suit with statement accessories. He was attending the festival as the star of two films debuting at the event, Aftersun and God's Creatures, both of which he's won rave reviews for.

He's also won praise for his red carpet looks, which continued his style streak of classic looks with considered details.

Mescal attended the Kering Women in Motion Awards during the 75th Annual Cannes Film Festival wearing a classic black suit by Gucci, featuring wide 70s-inspired lapels held in place on one side by a simple pin resembling a needle.

He paired this with a crisp white shirt and a black bolo-style tie, patent black shoes and a classy black watch. As he made his debut as a Cartier representative at the festival, both his brooch and watch were by the luxury brand.

Elsewhere at the festival he wore another look by the brand when he stepped out in a retro t-shirt from the Gucci and Adidas collaboration, featuring red trim and a fade blue logo on the front. He paired this with brown trousers and worn Adidas trainers for the full 70s look.

Most striking of all, however, was his moustache which he's continued to don since first spotted at the Met Gala, which he attended with girlfriend Phoebe Bridgers.

Speaking about his new look to British Vogue, Mescal said, "It started out for fun, but then I was doing a Zoom with a director I'm going to be working with next, and he was like, "Do not touch your face." So now, it’s technically for a role. I quite like it".
