Since 1946, the Cannes Film Festival has been one of the most star-studded and fashionable events on the calendar.

It's also the site of some of the celebrity world's most daring ensembles in recent years, with stars experimenting with everything from avant garde tailored looks, to voluminous gowns.

Princess Diana attended the festival in 1987 wearing a baby blue Catherine Walker gown, while Kristen Stewart famously kicked off her heels on the red carpet steps in protest against the strict dress code that reportedly required female guests to wear heels.

The festival, now in its 75th year, will run from 17 to 28 May 2022, with a jury judging the 24 films competing for the Palme d'Or. The festival will see a tribute to actor Tom Cruise, whose film Top Gun: Maverick is due to premiere at the festival.

Viola Davis is also set to be honoured with the 2022 Women In Motion Award, while Forest Whitaker will receive the prestigious lifetime achievement Palme d'Or award.
