It's been a busy week for Kate Middleton already, with a glamorous appearance at the No Time to Die premiere. But the latest James Bond film is probably not the scariest thing the Duchess of Cambridge had a brush with this week.

Kate was greeted by more than students and staff when she visited Ulster University Magee Campus as part of her trip to Northern Ireland with Prince William, as a tarantula named Charlotte was one of the many locals she got friendly with.

The couple were in Derry for a visit to young people and local groups who are making positive change in the community, in their first joint trip after the pandemic.

While there, they were treated to typical student fare, such as wheaten bread, Tayto crisps and even a small dram of whiskey and a half pint of Guinness.

According to the Evening Standard, the couple were also quizzed as part of a "culture shock" initiation test for new students, and were questioned on how to pronounce Irish names. They even learned some of the city's colloquial phrases which have become popularised thanks to the television show Derry Girls.

They also spoke to nursing students about ambulance care, and the kind of mental health supports that are made available to them.

The couple got to meet some rowdier locals as they stopped by KidzFarm, a group that helps students' mental health through animals. Kate said the family had had lots of pets during lockdown, as they're good for mental health, and after spotting a tarantula – named Charlotte – eagerly asked if she could hold her.

Finally, the pair visited the rugby club, and got to grips with kicking and passing with the students.

For the occasion, Kate wore a vibrant purple suit by Emilia Wickstead, including the Dida Wool Flannel Jacket – a double-breasted jacket with peak lapels and pockets – and the designer's Gus style trousers, which are tapered and have been altered for Kate to remove the turn-up hem on the legs.

Keeping the look tonal, Kate paired it with a navy turtleneck jumper, her Emmy London Josie Block Heel Pumps in navy suede and her quilted Jaeger handbag, in navy leather with gold accents.

For a touch of sparkle, she wore her Liv Thurwell Bobble earrings, which are small hoops accented with gold bobbles.

Her hair was worn pulled back into a voluminous and textured ponytail, while her makeup was cool and fresh, with a glowing complexion and a nude pink lipstick.
