Arguably the biggest date on the fashion calendar, the Met Gala is an annual event that sees the world's most famous faces dare to display their most extravagant looks under the watchful eye of Vogue editor and event chair, Anna Wintour.

From Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination to Camp: Notes On Fashion, the star-studded fundraiser sees actors, singers, musicians and models work the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, dressing to match the year's experimental theme.

Cancelled in 2020 and delayed from its usual slot on the first Monday in May, this year's theme is In America: A Lexicon Of Fashion.

Based around the Metropolitan Museum of Art exhibition, this exhibit will open on September 18th in the Anna Wintour Costume Center to celebrate The Costume Institute's 75th anniversary and explore a modern vocabulary of American fashion.

Part Two of the exhibition, In America: An Anthology of Fashion, will open in the American Wing period rooms on May 5, 2022, exploring the development of American fashion by presenting narratives that relate to the complex and layered histories of those spaces.

The guest list remains under wraps, but this year's co-chairs have been listed as Timothée Chalamet, Billie Eilish, Amanda Gorman, and Naomi Osaka as well as honorary chairs Tom Ford, Adam Mosseri, and Anna Wintour.

The official dress code for this year's event is American Independence, but what that will look like is anyone's guess. As previous years on the red carpet have shown, every celebrity - and their incredibly talented style team - will be vying to stand out from the crowd with their own unique interpretation.

We'll be updating the 2021 Met Gala red carpet gallery at the top of the page throughout the night to bring you every look as it happens.
