Kate Middleton is always up-to-date with the latest trends, and effortlessly works them into her wardrobe. Chances are if it's worth wearing, Kate wore it two weeks ago.

Whether it's thick headbands, 40s-style tea dresses or voluminous sleeves, the Duchess of Cambridge always has her finger on the pulse when it comes to changing trends, embracing them subtly.

And while her most extravagant looks are more likely to include antique diamonds and satin sashes, it's her more casual outfits that lead to "the Kate effect".

So we're expecting a lot more people to be wearing Peter Pan collars this season, thanks to her latest engagement look.

The Duchess took part in a series of video calls with servicemen and women to mark Remembrance week, alongside her husband Prince William. It was an emotional day for both, as Kate heard from a young boy whose father was killed in Afghanistan.

The couple had marked Remembrance Day earlier that week at the Cenotaph, where Kate donned a dramatic military coat for the occasion.

But her look for these calls was decidedly more casual, and just as chic. Putting all of our Zoom call outfits to shame, Kate chose a sweet and feminine satin blouse with a striking black Peter Pan collar.

The blouse, the Boo Blouse in ivory by Ghost London, featured a flowing silhouette cinched in by subtle darts, voluminous sleeves with cuffed wrists, gathered shoulders and neat front buttons.

However, it's the contrasting black Peter Pan collar that caught our eye. The wide collar features romantic scalloped edges, adding an Edwardian note to Kate's elegant outfit.

The Peter Pan collar has boomed in popularity in recent months, becoming a go-to accessory for those of us switching between Zoom calls. Many brands have now started offering detachable collars that can be layered over your other tops or dresses, such as Irish brand Queens of Archive, a firm favourite of Holly Willoughby's

Whether it's a simple black or white piece or something more expressive like Louise McSharry's statement collar from Aisling Duffy, the collar is here to stay.

Kate finished her look with a pair of pearl drop earrings and wore her long brown hair straight and tucked behind her ears. Her makeup was rich and smokey, with a flick of eyeliner and a fresh peach blush adding colour to her face.
