Most of us use our activewear for more than exercise; gym class to brunch has become a Saturday norm, which is why a fusion of style and functionality is a must. This means pieces that not only make us look good, but are designed to stretch, compress, wick away sweat and also have reflective and water-repellent properties.

The spring Tommy Sport collection for both men and women is a vibrant nod to the 90s which re-energises classic activewear from that decade to bring it bang up to date, so you can move from training to socialising easily.

Work out essentials – sports bra, leggings, shorts, and tank tops– come in bright blocks of primary colours with oversized star designs, striped tape, zips and quick-open buttons (remember those?) all featuring the Tommy Sport logo inspired by the Tommy Hilfiger flag.

A playful side
Karl Lagerfeld’s eponymous collection has come to the Accessories Hall in Arnotts, Dublin. The masterful creative director behind the Chanel fashion house - who passed away early last week - had his own line of clothes, shoes, and accessories, which revealed Karl’s playful side as well as his unrivaled eye for what’s cool. The newest collection,

The World According to Karl features timeless rock-chic pieces, as well as more fanciful designs, from splashes of his famous quotes to cutesy caricatures of Karl sporting his iconic black shades, and his beloved cat Choupette. With nearly 120,000 followers on Instagram, Karl has admitted she is the most pampered moggie on the planet.

New rotation
Copenhagen Fashion Week was abuzz last August as a collaboration, Rotate, was unveiled between iconic Danish fashion store Birger Christensen, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year, and influential stylists Jeanette Madsen and Thora Valdimars.

Both women are known for their style, which is best described as eccentric Scandi, and Rotate is their brainchild, an eclectic mix of everything the two ever wanted in their own wardrobes. Proving that Brown Thomas has its finger firmly on the fashion pulse, its buyers have secured the collection for 2019.

We predict a large queue forming to buy this crinkled metallic bright orange dress, €205, once it lands. Pictured here, Jeanette and Thora showed how you can style their dresses for daywear with trousers, but the deep V-neck cuts, short hemlines and puffed up voluminous shoulders mean every piece packs a serious style punch for evening wear. The collection is available on or at Brown Thomas Dublin.
