STEM Careers Chat for Post-Primary Students this Science Week

Taighde Éireann (Research Ireland) are teaming up with Dream Space again this Science Week to explore STEM careers. Post-Primary students can find out more about the amazing roles on offer, plus there are some great events taking place.

The theme of Science Week 2025, running from 9 to 16 November, is Then. Today. Tomorrow. It celebrates the past, present and future of science.

Inspiring Careers with Shanice Griffin LIVE from Dream Space (Online)

On Tuesday, 11 November celebrate Science Week with a live careers chat from ESERO Ireland hosted by content creator Shanice Griffin. Broadcasting from Dream Space, Shanice will speak with three guests working in space-related careers:

  • Maeve Doyle, who grew up in Charleville, Cork and is now Senior Flight Software Verification & Validation Engineer at Astroscale.
  • Lorraine Hanlon, who grew up in Whitehall on the northside of Dublin, went to school at Dominican College Eccles Street (now moved to Griffith Avenue) and is now Professor of Astronomy and Director at UCD Centre for Space Research.
  • Michael Martin, who grew up in Ballyjamesduff in Cavan, went to school at St Patrick's College in Cavan and is now Engineering Manager at Réaltra Space.

Hear their stories, discover the range of opportunities in STEM, and learn about different paths you can take to get there. A live Q&A will follow, where you can ask your questions.

This event is suitable for post-primary students, especially Transition Year and Senior Cycle, and for anyone curious about a career in space.

ESERO Ireland is an education project of the European Space Agency (ESA) that is co-funded by Research Ireland. Our aim is to spark young people’s passion for STEM, build their skills, and empower them to pursue careers in space. We also raise awareness of the vital role space research, exploration, and applications play in shaping modern society.

This includes coordinating ESA School Projects, five exciting interdisciplinary school-level projects. Using space as a backdrop to explore real-life applications of science and technology, the projects aim to captivate and challenge learners, spark curiosity, and empower students to develop critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. From physics to chemistry, biology to coding – there is something for every learner!
