From the species of Ireland's birds to the science of confidence, there's a lot to be learned on the last weekend of Science Week.

1. Ancient Pottery Making, Kerry County Museum, Tralee

Saturday, November 18, 11am to 4pm

In this engaging event, be prepared to learn all about how pots were made thousands of years ago. Dingle-based Danish ceramicist Lone Beiter O'Reilly will demonstrate the art of making your own pot using Neolithic techniques. This event is suitable for children and adults of all ages. The event is free for children and costs €5 for adults, which includes admission to the museum and its five galleries. Pre-booking is recommended.

2. Tullyvin Garden Centre Workshops, Cavan
Saturday, November 18, 11am to 5pm

At Johnston Central Library in Cavan, Tullyvin Garden Centre will give workshops on botany and biodiversity, focusing on topics like seed germination, and how plants develop and grow. In addition, they will also talk about the various bird species native to Ireland, and which food and nuts are suitable for each. This event is free, but you should pre-book.

3. The Science of Confidence, Gaiety School of Acting, Dublin 
Sunday, November 19, 11am to 12.30pm

Public speaking is the world's number one fear, ahead of loneliness – and even death. But, you can’t conquer this fear until you understand the science behind it. On Sunday at the Gaiety School of Acting in Temple Bar, experts will take you through the physiological aspect of this fear, blending interactive activities with fun and entertaining sessions. This event is suitable for adults and costs €10.

4. Science of Good Food, Castle Leslie, Monaghan
Sunday, November 19, 5pm to 6pm

This splendid event in the heart of the 1,000 acres of stunning Irish countryside surrounding Castle Leslie will see you treated to a drinks reception on arrival and then a presentation of dishes by Head Chef Darragh Dooley – including a selection of appetisers, starters, main courses and desserts. You'll then learn how they were made. The event is free, but you must pre-book.
