It's 12 April and that means it's Yuri's Night or International Day of Human Space Flight where we celebrate the people who have reached for the stars. Dr Niamh Shaw is here to tell us more.
It's a time to reflect on everything that we have achieved so far in human space flight. It's been 60 years since Russian Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, became the first human in space and 40 years since the very first NASA Space Shuttle mission.
You can read more on Russia's celebrating the first person in spave here on RTÉ!
And as Niamh said, today also marks the start of NASA's Space Shuttle program. Between the first launch on April 12, 1981, and the final landing on July 21, 2011, NASA's space shuttle fleet - Columbia, Challenger, Discovery, Atlantis and Endeavour - flew 135 missions.
Later this evening Niamh will also be giving a live talk to celebrate Yuri's Night and tell everyone about her own journey to try to become an astronaut!
