The west is awake and full of talented kids. Here, a group from Galway present the first of their plays as part of the StageSchool Ireland Presents series produced with RTÉjr Radio during lockdown.
You can listen to Bailey and the Mean Lollipop Guy at 7pm this evening or press play right now here!
Julia Rauch of StageSchool Ireland tells us all about it: "Together with my amazing Galway students we devised two radio plays over the course of 10 weeks. The younger ones helped form a creative plot with their imagination and the older ones gave me great advice about what works in a script and what doesn't.
Together with one group we produced 'Bailey and the Mean Lollipop Guy'. This story is about a little girl, trying to find her puppy. Her journey takes her through a crazy hotel, an animal disco and candyland, with even a short visit to outer space.
There were definitely challenges from time to time, such as the glitches on zoom, timing issues and keeping everyone's attention on the task. But the children's excitement and devotion to the play made it all worth it.
Now we have this wonderful play we can listen to and say, 'Hey! That talking donut daisy there is me!!' How cool is that!?"
They started brainstorming ideas around Christmas when Julia showed her students a gingerbread house and asked them who could live in it. This was the birth of the mean lollipop guy, the marshmallow triplets and their fellow villagers who you will meet in this great play!
Well done to everyone at StageSchool Ireland!
