How a Spanish woman became a fluent Irish speaker

Lucia Atenica Fernandez spoke on The Ryan Tubridy Show about how she came to Ireland and fell in love with the Irish language and became a fluent speaker, now living in a Gaeltacht.

Lucia came originally from Galicia and came to Ireland over 20 years ago. Lucia says she came to Ireland looking for some new adventures and was excited about learning more about Irish culture. Since then, she has successfully learned the language and loves living in Conamara, where the local people are so proud of their linguistic heritage.

Lucia says living in Conamara is like living 'in a different country', in a place where you can do all of your business as Gaeilge. Other parts of the culture are also hugely attractive to Lucia, sean-nós singing and the stunning setting of the Galway Gaeltacht.
