Television producer, Ciarán Ó Cofaigh spoke to Seán O' Rourke on Today With Seán O' Rourke on RTÉ Radio One about his complaint to the State data watchdog about the omission of the 'síneadh fada' in his name.
After an eight-month investigation into the complaint, the commission has ruled an individual’s right to have their records rectified "is not an absolute right" and "depends on the circumstances in each individual case".
In response, Ó Cofaigh says that the accurate spelling of his name is 'the essence of who I am' and suggests that this issue goes further than the HSE but is a societal issue and questions why in Ireland those who spell their names in Irish are regularly asked to translate their names into English.

Today with Seán O'Rourke is broadcast is on RTÉ Radio One, Monday - Friday at 10am
