Tá cáil ar chlár The Rolling Wave ar RTÉ Radio One as an gceol traidisiúnta a chur chun cinn, a bhuíochas le Peter Browne. Féachann an clár seo ar an gcaoi a chaith an craoltóir náisiúnta leis an gceol traidisiúnta, ach go háirithe ar thábhacht The Long Note.

Labhair saineolaithe ceoil faoin meon a bhí ag go leor maidir leis an gceol traidisiúnta, ach go háirithe amhránaíocht ar an sean nós sular tháinig Raidió na Gaeltachta ar an bhfód sa bhliain 1972.

Ian Lee, broadcaster, suggests there was a 'bias' against traditional music on the national airwaves because  'it wasn't regarded as art'.

The first ceannaire of Raidió na Gaeltachta, Aindrias Ó Gallachóir mentions how integral sean nós was to its inception and development 'it was all around, you know, and you couldn't escape it'.

Peadar O' Riada, musician, suggests Raidió na Gaeltachta changed the cultural landscape for those who spoke Irish. Raidió na Gaeltachta 'brought together community of listeners that were interested in sean nós together so you began to get much bigger crowds at the Oireachtas.'

Professor Gearóid Ó hAllmhuráin credits Raidió na Gaeltachta for a mind-shift with regard to our Gaeltacht regions:

"I think Raidió na Gaeltachta radically altered our understanding of Gaeltacht culture. Particularly in the context of allowing the Gaeltachts to finally speak to each other on the airwaves. "

Láithreoir The Rolling Wave, Peter Browne.

He continues:

"Imagine, prior to the arrival of Raidió na Gaeltachta, people of Cape Clear or Baile Bhúirne actually hearing their cohorts in Conamara or  in Gaoth Dobhair on a nightly basis; and hearing their narratives, hearing their stories, hearing their news, hearing their songs and their dance music-this was simply unimaginable prior to the 1970s "

Tony Mc Mahon's The Long Note took to the air in 1974 and according to Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin 'was about converting people', in keeping with the spirit of the 1970s, a time in which Planxty and The Horslips had begun experimenting with traditional music.

The Long Note was 'a whole new concept' according to former Director General, Bob Collins.
