Maverick - 2004 - 41 minutes

Morissette's unique blend of rock, pop and grunge made her an instant hit when she released 'Jagged Little Pill' back in the 1990s. Three albums later, her unusual style is still a pleasure to listen to.

'So Called Chaos' is a very relationship-focussed album but Morissette's songs are firmly rooted in the real world where love is anything but a fairytale. Tracks like 'Out is Through' and 'Doth I Protest Too Much' deal with the chaos and turbulence of love in a very down to earth and decidedly unromantic way.

This collection is also quite personal. Morissette does not shy away from self-deprecation. Her honesty and frankness about herself is one of the most refreshing aspects of the album.

Musically, the album is very experimental. The opening track, 'Eight Easy Steps', has a jerky feel, which makes the album difficult to immerse yourself in, but also much more interesting. You may have to listen to 'So Called Chaos' a few times before you get to grips with it, but, once you do, the quality really shines through.
