"She's the one who won't leave me alone..."
The old maxim about being careful what you wish for makes its way to cinemas again for one of the big-screen treats of 2026 - best seen with a crowd and then discussed all the way home.
The creepiest of cautionary tales from writer-director Curry Barker, Obsession sees stars Michael Johnston and Inde Navarrette deliver A-list-worthy performances in a film that's part Stephen King and part Fatal Attraction.
We meet Bear (Johnston), a beige-cardie kind of guy who is in love with his childhood friend and co-worker Nikki (Navarrette) but is too scared to say it.
While buying Nikki a crystal at a holistic shop, Bear also stumps up for a One Wish Willow, the novelty toy that promises to grant one wish per person when broken in two.
After driving Nikki home, Bear breaks the willow - and soon all hell breaks loose.
This two-hander causes skin scratching again and again as Johnston's Bear goes from bliss to bewilderment, and Navarrette's Nikki transforms into one of the best horror characters in recent years. Truly, the stuff that nightmares are made of.
Obsession is grainy and gory, piles on the mayhem with the skill of a maestro, and, despite a hurried ending, leaves such an impression that Barker will be able to call the shots with whatever he wants to do next.
Just hurry up!
