Bono talks about joining U2, meeting his wife and his relationship with his late father in a new trailer for the upcoming Apple TV+ documentary Bono: Stories of Surrender.

Described as a "vivid reimagining" of the one-man show the Dubliner performed at the Beacon Theatre in New York in April 2023, it debuts on the streaming service on 30 May and is based on his memoir, Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story, and the accompanying book/theatre tour, which visited Dublin's Olympia Theatre in 2022.

Bono: Stories of Surrender will feature never-before-seen footage from the live shows, and performances of U2 songs, including City of Blinding Lights and Where the Streets Have No Name.

In the new trailer, Bono quips "These are the tall tales of a short rock star" and tells the audience how he met his future wife, Ali Stewart in the same week he joined U2.

He also discusses his relationship with his parents, the late Bob and Iris Hewson.

Speaking about the death of his mother when he was just 14 years old, Bono says, "My father’s response to this tragedy was to never speak of her again. I craved my father’s attention, so I sang louder and louder."

According to the synopsis from Apple TV+, "Bono: Stories of Surrender is a vivid reimagining of Bono’s critically acclaimed one-man stage show, Stories of Surrender: An Evening of Words, Music and Some Mischief…, as he pulls back the curtain on a remarkable life and the family, friends, and faith that have challenged and sustained him, revealing personal stories about his journey as a son, father, husband, activist and rock star.

"Along with never-before-seen, exclusive footage from the Beacon Theatre shows, the film features Bono performing many of the iconic U2 songs that have shaped his life and legacy."

Also set to premiere on 30 May on Apple Vision Pro, "Bono: Stories of Surrender (Immersive) will be the first feature-length film available in Apple Immersive Video, a media format recorded in 8K with Spatial Audio to produce a 180-degree video that places viewers onstage with Bono and in the centre of his story.
