It is reported that Brad Pitt's production company Plan B is in early talks with Adolescence director Philip Barantini about a follow-up to the global Netflix hit.

In an interview with US entertainment trade publication Deadline, Plan B co-presidents Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner said they have discussed the "next iteration" of the show with Barantini, whose credits also include the Stephen Graham-starring film Boiling Point and the spin-off series of the same name, which is available on the RTÉ Player.

The Netflix crime drama Adolescence is about a boy accused of killing a girl in his class. This Is England star Stephen Graham - who co-wrote the series - plays Eddie Miller, the father of 13-year-old Jamie, played by newcomer Owen Cooper, who sees armed police burst into his home to arrest his son.

Gardner and Kleiner said they hoped that Adolescence writers Stephen Graham and Jack Thorne would be a part of any future project.

Plan B co-produced Adolescence with director Barantini's It's All Made Up Productions, star Graham's Matriarch Productions, Warp Films, and One Shoe Films.

Gardner explained that Plan B is thinking about how a follow-up could "widen the aperture, stay true to its DNA [and] not be repetitive" as it looks to capitalise on Adolescence's success.

Deadline adds that Adolescence currently ranks fourth on Netflix's Most Popular English-Language TV list with over 114.5 million views since its March release.

In March, Adolescence director Barantini said the Netflix drama should remain "standalone" and not have a second series.

The 44-year-old told the PA news agency he had been surprised by the scale of reaction to the show but said he felt it should remain as its initial four episodes.
