Stephen Graham is reuniting with Boiling Point director Philip Barantini for a real-time, one-shot crime drama series for Netflix that tells the story of a 13-year-old boy who is charged with murder.
The series, which currently has the working title Adolescence, is written and created by Graham and Jack Thorne (The Swimmers, Joy).
It also stars Ashley Walters (Top Boy), Erin Doherty (The Crown), debutant Owen Cooper, Faye Marsay (Game of Thrones), Christine Tremarco (The Responder), Mark Stanley (Happy Valley), Jo Hartley (After Life), and newcomer Amélie Pease.
"Adolescence tells the story of how a family's world is turned upside down when 13-year-old Jamie Miller (Owen Cooper) is arrested and charged with the murder of a teenage girl who goes to his school," said Netflix.
"Stephen Graham will play Jamie's father and 'appropriate adult', Eddie Miller. Ashley Walters stars as Detective Inspector Bascombe, and Erin Doherty is Briony Ariston, the clinical psychologist assigned to Jamie's case.
"The four-part series is directed by Philip Barantini, with each episode being filmed in one unflinching continuous shot, holding focus on the main characters and the unparalleled drama as it unfolds in real time."
Graham and Barantini's Boiling Point, a one-shot film about a close-to-breakdown chef, received critical acclaim upon its release in 2022. It spawned a BBC spin-off series of the same name, which is available on the RTÉ Player.
Filming on Adolescence is under way in the UK.
