The team behind An Cailín Ciúin (The Quiet Girl) celebrated the Irish-language drama's success at the film's New York premiere this week.

Writer-director Colm Bairéad, producer Cleona Ní Chrualaoí and stars Catherine Clinch, Carrie Crowley and Andrew Bennett were all in attendance at the city's Whitby Hotel on Wednesday night.

They were joined by the Minister of State for European Affairs and Defence, Peter Burke, and Irish Consul General Helena Nolan, who is based in New York City.

Oscar-nominated Raging Bull star Cathy Moriarty was also among the guests.

An Cailín Ciúin, which is adapted from the Claire Keegan book Foster, is shortlisted for Best International Feature Film at the Oscars on Sunday 12 March.

It is the first Irish-language film to make the category, which was previously known as Best Foreign-Language Film, and has received rave reviews in the US press.

An Cailín Ciúin was funded by Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland, TG4 and the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland [BAI] as part of the Cine4 scheme to develop feature films in Irish.
