Former Walking on Cars frontman Pa Sheehy is playing his biggest show to date as a solo artist when he plays Dublin's Academy on 18 October. We asked him the BIG questions . . .
Sheehy returned as a solo artist in June of 2021, with his song I Saw You At A Funeral. He followed it later the same year with Róisín and released his debut project The Art of Disappearing in September of 2021, before hitting the road for the first time to play sold-out shows in Whelan’s and St. James’s Church in Dingle.
Tell us three things about yourself . . .
I’m a musician from Dingle, one of my greatest achievements is solving a Rubik’s Cube in just over a minute and the older I get the more I like Bruce Springsteen.
How would you describe your music?
Guitar-driven indie pop that wants to be less poppy and cooler but failing miserably.
Who are your musical inspirations?
A few that spring to mind are Bon Iver, The Killers, Nirvana and Bell X1.
What was the first gig you ever went to?
It was Bell X1 at Other Voices Church in Dingle many moons ago. I nearly didn’t go 'cos I was like `Bell X who?’ Then I went and it changed my life.
What was the first record you ever bought?
Green Day’s Dookie from Roxy Records in Tralee. It’s closed since but that’s where I went to buy all my albums as a teenager.
What’s your favourite song right now?
At the moment, I can’t get enough of Sorcha Richardson’s Archie. Coolest track on Irish radio at the moment!
Favourite lyric of all time?
Bell X1 - In Every Sunflower. "I wouldn’t swap the pain for never knowing you". This lyric breaks me every time I hear it! Also, their album Music In Mouth is a huge part of my musical DNA.
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Probably go with Boy Meets Girl - Waiting For A Star To Fall, just because it makes everything better.
Where can people find your music/more information?
All on me ‘lil website, or Insta, Twitter and Yes I’m also on TikTok!
