Cursed Murphy Versus the Resistance have released their new single, Hold That Line. We asked frontman Peter Murphy the BIG questions . . .

The track is the first to be taken from their forthcoming second album, Republic of the Weird, due this autumn.

Cursed Murphy Versus the Resistance released their eponymous debut album in July 2020 and it was voted No. 2 album of the year by readers of The Last Mixed Tape, and No. 1 album of the year by Mike's Music Express on Dundalk FM.

In September 2021, the collective played Wuppertal and Berlin in Germany as part of the travelling Here/There exhibition, supported by Culture Ireland. More recently they played a sold-out show in Wexford Opera House with guests Basciville and Stephen James Smith, with whom Peter recorded a collaborative EP, Tell It to A Tree, released last December.

Cursed Murphy Versus the Resistance will perform at Summer in the City in Waterford on 16 July.

How would you describe your music?

Raw, emotional, epic, intimate, mutant-ninja spoken word sci-fi punk rock dystopian surround-sound.

Who are your musical inspirations?

Iggy Pop. Leonard Cohen. Neu! The Sex Pistols.

What was the first gig you ever went to and the first record you ever bought/downloaded?

The first actual gig was Tommy Makem and Liam Clancy at the Castle Ballroom, Enniscorthy, 1981. The first rock gig was the Rolling Stones at Slane Castle the next year. First single I bought was The Leader of the Gang (I Am) by Gary Glitter. Come on, I was four.

What's your favourite song right now?

A toss-up between my mate Johnny Fox’s new song Watch Your Head, Frankenstein Bolts' single Your Father and Stephen James Smith’s I’ve Had Lovers.

Favourite lyric of all time?

"Bam-bam-baba, babam-ba-baba, I wanna be sedated." - The Ramones.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

I Feel Love by Donna Summer. Or, if that's not available, Burn by Nine Inch Nails.
