Irish band Fontaines D.C. have claimed their first ever Number 1 album in Ireland and the UK with their new release Skinty Fia.

Skinty Fia, which is the Grammy-nominated band's third album, follows 2019’s Dogrel which peaked at Number 4, and 2020’s A Hero’s Death which reached Number 2 on the Official Irish album charts.

In the UK, Dogrel peaked at No. 9 while A Hero's Death hit No.2.

Grian Chatten, Carlos O'Connell, Conor Curley, Conor Deegan III and Tom Coll also scored the biggest week of albums chart sales of the year so far, with 82% on physical copies in Ireland.

Skinty Fia also claims the biggest first-week chart sales for an album by a homegrown act since Inhaler’s chart-topping It Won’t Always Be Like This in July 2021.

Speaking about their Number One album, the band said, "We're touched by everyone's response to Skinty Fia, thank you to everyone who bought, streamed or downloaded it. Love FDC x".

Skinty Fia has also hit No. 2 in The Netherlands, No. 3 in Belgium, No.5 in Germany, and No. 7 in France.

Meanwhile, Ed Sheeran, who recently played gigs in Dublin and Cork, sees his album X hit No. 5 on the new Irish album chart, with + at No. 13 and No. 6 Collaborations Project at No. 20. The three albums join mainstays = (No. 2) and Divide (No. 3) in this week’s Top 50.

Just outside the Top 10, American rapper Pusha T debuts at No. 11 with fourth studio album It’s Almost Dry, besting the performance of previous album Daytona (2018) which landed at No. 17 on release.
