Daniel at 60, 9:25pm, RTÉ One/RTÉ Player
"I suppose if I can be remembered as somebody that brought people together - there's too much dividing the world. And if I was known that I brought some together, I would be very happy."
So says the birthday boy and national treasure as RTÉ One presents this major documentary, billed as an "entertaining and honest insight into the life of a local hero". We go backstage and hear from family, friends and fans as we learn about what makes one of the nicest people around tick. Among the interviewees are wife Majella, sister Margo, brother John Bosco (a TV first), best pal PJ Sweeney and Dungloe postman Owen Doyle, with Cliff Richard, Garth Brooks and Nathan Carter among those sending birthday wishes. And for all the celebrations, you'll have the best seat in the house.

Reuniting Steven Spielberg with his Bridge of Spies Oscar winner Mark Rylance, this decades-in-the-works adaptation of Roald Dahl's heroic hand-me-down is very sweet, a bit scary and a feast for the eyes. Adapted for the screen by the late ET writer Melissa Mathison, The BFG has plenty in the way of comfort blanket charm and for all its ante-upping use of live-action and CGI, is a decidedly old-school treat.
How Ireland Rocked the 70s, 6:30pm, RTÉ One/RTÉ Player
Time to let your hair down...

This documentary has put together a dream bill - Thin Lizzy, Rory Gallagher, Horslips and more - as it looks at the evolution of festivals in Ireland, and how rock music brought the country kicking and screaming into the modern world. We travel to Dublin's Richmond Park and Dalymount Park, Lisdoonvarna in Co Clare, Carnsore Point in Co Wexford and elsewhere to hear from the people who were there. Them was days, Joxer!
Murder on the Orient Express, 9:00pm, Channel 4
All aboard for lovers of old-world mystery and unusual suspects...

Murder on the Orient Express finds Kenneth Branagh double-jobbing as he calls the shots behind the lens while looking for clues as Hercule Poirot in front of it. His journey on the most (in)famous rail line in movie history features the most impressive of passenger manifests - Olivia Colman, Penélope Cruz, Judi Dench and Michelle Pfeiffer are among those joining him. For anyone over a certain age, this is a trip through a time tunnel that leads back to the wonder of watching grown-up films on telly way back when. Such is the retro allure that a doorstep of Black Forest Gateaux will do wonders for your enjoyment.
Extra Ordinary, 11:15pm, RTÉ2
Homegrown supernatural hijinks for a laugh at bedtime...

Writing-directing duo Mike Ahern and Enda Loughman's feature film debut finds driving instructor Rose Dooley (Maeve Higgins) getting mixed up in all kinds of shenanigans involving a handsome local widower (Barry Ward) and a one-hit wonder American musician (Will Forte). Heartwarming, consistently funny and decent on the special effects front, Extra Ordinary deserves its place on the Best of Irish honour roll.
