New Irish duo Telefís have released their second single Mister Imperator and you can watch the video for the song here.
Telefís are made up of former Microdisney and Fatima Mansions front man Cathal Coughlan and producer and musician Jack Knife Lee, who has worked on albums by Snow Patrol, R.E.M. and U2.
The new track and video, directed by Jack Knife Lee, were inspired by the dawn of RTÉ television in Ireland in 1961 and in particular "a gnomic prophesy" made by a disgruntled Archbishop of Dublin, who said at the time, "When the Messiah comes, he shall be born of a public house lock-in in Crossmaglen. He will be attended by antelopes".
As the duo say, the launch of the TV station resulted in the arrival of a new media class, sometimes augmented by some eccentric characters. Mister Imperator presents a potted biography of one such figure.
Coughlan and Lee created their debut album, a hAon, a collection of songs that express a "corrosive nostalgia" during lockdown and it's set for release in January 2022 on Dimple Discs.
