Jason Sudeikis has broken his silence on his split from partner Olivia Wilde, saying he will "have a better understanding of why in a year".
The couple began dating in 2011 and became engaged in 2013. News of their break-up was reported in November 2020, with a source telling People they were amicably "co-parenting their children", Otis and Daisy.
Following news of Sudeikis and Wilde's split, she was pictured by paparazzi with actor and singer Harry Styles. They worked together on the upcoming American psychological thriller Don't Worry Darling, which Wilde directed and Styles starred in.
The Saturday Night Live alum and Emmy-nominated star of the comedy series Ted Lasso has now spoken about the end of their relationship.
In a cover story for GQ magazine, he shared: "I'll have a better understanding of why in a year and an even better one in two, and an even greater one in five, and it'll go from being, you know, a book of my life to becoming a chapter to a paragraph to a line to a word to a doodle."

The actor and comedian said he was still trying to figure out what he was supposed to learn from what had happened.
"That's an experience that you either learn from or make excuses about," he said. "You take some responsibility for it, hold yourself accountable for what you do, but then also endeavor to learn something beyond the obvious from it."
Sudeikis also spoke about life imitating art with his series Ted Lasso, in which he plays the titular role. By the end of the first season, Lasso is divorced and renegotiating his relationships with his now ex-wife and son.

The first season had already been written and aired by the time Sudeikis found himself living some aspects of it in real life.
"And yet one has nothing to do with the other," Sudeikis said. "That's the crazy thing. Everything that happened in season one was based on everything that happened prior to season one.
"Like, a lot of it three years prior. You know what I mean? The story's bigger than that, I hope. And anything I've gone through, other people have gone through. That's one of the nice things, right? So it's humbling in that way."

The 45-year-old actor acknowledged he has had a hard year but has come through the other side.
"I think it was really neat," he said. "I think if you have the opportunity to hit a rock bottom, however you define that, you can become 412 bones or you can land like an Avenger. I personally have chosen to land like an Avenger."
