Irish actors Ciarán Hinds, Stephen Rea and Steve Wall are to star opposite Emily Blunt and The Twilight Saga's Chaske Spencer in The English, a "high-octane, epic western" series for BBC One and Amazon Prime Video, currently filming in Spain.
The English is written and directed by Hugo Blick, whose credits include The Honourable Woman, Black Earth Rising and The Shadow Line.
It tells the story of Cornelia Locke (Blunt), "an Englishwoman who arrives into the new and wild landscape of the West to wreak revenge on the man she sees as responsible for the death of her son".
"Upon meeting Eli Whipp (Spencer), an ex-cavalry scout and member of the Pawnee Nation by birth, they join together and discover a shared history which must be defeated at all costs, if either of them are to survive," says the BBC.
"The chance to make a western with Emily Blunt and the cast is so delicious I'm still wondering if it's one of those weird dreams we were all having during lockdown," said writer-director Blick.
"If not, a thrilling, romantic, epic horse-opera is heading to your screen sometime next year, and I couldn't be more excited."
Rea previously worked on Blick's The Honourable Woman and The Shadow Line.
The cast of The English also includes Rafe Spall (The Salisbury Poisonings, Trying) and Toby Jones (Marvellous, Detectorists).
Blunt will next be seen on cinema screens opposite another Irish actor, Cillian Murphy, in A Quiet Place Part II.
Its release date is still to be confirmed.
