The Killer is based on the French graphic novel Le Tueur by Alexis Nolent, under the pen name Matz, and artist Luc Jacamon. It tells the story of a hitman who is plagued by his conscience while his services are still in demand.

Representatives for Fassbender did not comment on the story, but The Hollywood Reporter says it has been told by sources that talks are under way.

Fincher's Mank is on Netflix. He also made the series Mindhunter for the streaming service.
