A trailer for the upcoming Aretha Franklin biopic series, Genius: Aretha, has been released and it sees Academy award nominee Cynthia Erivo in the lead role.
Franklin, who was known as the Queen of Soul, had hits with Think, You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman, Respect, and Chain of Fools, died in 2018 at the age of 76.
Genius: Aretha premieres on National Geographic in March and will dramatise the late singer's career as a singer and as a civil rights activist.
The series also stars Emmy-winner Courtney B. Vance (American Crime Story) as the singer's preacher father Rev. C.L. Franklin.
Erivo, whose other film roles include Bad Times at the El Royale and Harriet, won a Tony and Grammy award for her role in the revival of The Color Purple from 2015 to 2017 on Broadway.
Genius: Aretha will premiere double-bill episodes over four consecutive nights. The eight-part series kicks off on Sunday, March 21.
It will be available on Hulu in the US the day after their TV debuts.
Jennifer Hudson is also set to play the Queen of Soul in the film Respect, which is due for release in August.
