Ed Sheeran has released new, surprise track Afterglow for his fans, alongside artwork he created himself and a one-take performance video for the song.

Speaking about the new song, Sheeran says, "Afterglow is a song I wrote last year that I wanted to release for you. It's not the first single from the next album, it’s just a song I love, and hope you love too. Enjoy! Have a wonderful festive break and New Year’s. Back to dad land for me now, ciao x"

Recently unveiled as the most-streamed British artist of 2020 in the UK, Sheeran wrote the track with FRED, who also co-produced the track together with Ed and David Hodges.

Sheeran and his wife Cherry Seaborn had a baby daughter Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran in September and he is currently on an extended break.

Afterglow is Sheeran’s first new material since No.6 Collaborations Project in 2019.

Sheeran, who was recently named as the most-streamed British artist of 2020 in the UK, played himself in Danny Boyle film Yesterday.
