Tell us three things about yourself?

I was born in Zimbabwe, but I've lived in Ireland most of my life.

I love having conversations about God, growth and purpose, maybe a little too much for some of my friends.

I also love laughing.

How would you describe your music?

Lyrically, a lot of what I write is in the form of a train of thought. Sonically, it’s still under construction and I don’t know exactly what to call it but it’s quite positive and punchy at the moment.

Who are your musical inspirations?

I’m inspired by the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Frank Ocean, Sza, Brandy, Smino, Saba and Andre 3000.

How did you occupy yourself during the coronavirus lockdown?

I have a studio set up in my house, so I learned how to produce and just made a bunch of music and my brother and I dabbled in making rough videos on our phones. Also started an organisation with my friends that aims to ensure Irish Black Businesses scale, become mainstream and own.

What’s your favourite song right now?

Favourite song right now and has always been is India Arie - Get It Together.

Favourite lyric of all time?

"Fired the label like f*** brands/Comfortable low *****, f** Xans/Comfortable slow, who the f*** ran..." - Frank Ocean’s verse on Purity with A$AP Rocky.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life what would it be?

India Arie - Get It Together.

Where can people find your music/more information?

They can find me on all platforms, and I’d urge them to check out my videos on YouTube. On all social platforms, it’s Jafarismusic.
