Harry Potter star Rupert Grint has set a record for gaining most Instagram followers in the quickest time, breaking a record previously held by naturalist Sir David Attenborough.

The 32-year-old actor, who played Ron Weasley in all eight Harry Potter films, joined the social media site on November 10, joking that he was "only 10 years late", and dubbed himself `Grint on the Gram'.

Grint hit the million followers mark in four hours and one minute, reports the BBC.

That's 43 minutes quicker than it took Attenborough, who signed up to Instagram in September to promote his A Life On Our Planet documentary, according to Guinness World Records.

Grint’s first post was a photo of himself with his baby daughter and in the caption, he said he was "here to introduce you all to Wednesday", the six-month-old girl his partner Georgia Groome gave birth to in May.

The actor has also beaten the likes of Jennifer Aniston and Pope Francis to gain the most followers in the fastest time.
