Irish actress Simone Kirby re-joins His Dark Materials cast

Irish actress Simone Kirby has re-joined the cast of the BBC's His Dark Materials for the show's eight-part second series.

The Peaky Blinders star plays physicist and former nun Dr. Mary Malone, who has built a computer that can communicate with dark matter, in the show.

The star-studded cast of the Philip Pullman adaptation also includes Andrew Scott, Dafne Keen, Lin-Manuel Miranda and James McAvoy.

The drama follow the adventures of a 12-year-old Lyra, who lives in a fictional version of Oxford in Victorian times. 

Season two is based on the second book in the trilogy series, The Subtle Knife, while the first season was based on Pullman's Northern Lights.

The new season picks up from when Lyra finds her father, played by James McAvoy, who kills her friend Roger.

His Dark Materials season two is on BBC One, Sundays at 8.00pm.
