Kerry-born actress Jessie Buckley is to star in a new version of Romeo and Juliet for television.

Buckley, who picked up two awards at the IFTAs earlier this month, will team up with Josh O'Connor who starred in The Durrells and played Prince Charles in The Crown.

The pair were due to play the titular characters at The National Theatre in London over the summer, but the production has now been reimagined for TV following the coronavirus outbreak.

Speaking about the change of plans O'Connor said: "Jessie and I were supposed to be doing this live and whilst I'm so sad not to be sharing this with an audience, we have been hatching all summer and think this will be pretty special."

The National Theatre in London is set to be temporarily transformed into a TV studio for three weeks to accommodate filming this December.
