The Luminaries which starz Eve Hewson and is based on the Booker prize-winning novel by Eleanor Catton caused a bit of stir on social media after the final episode aired last night.
The story centres on emigrants and convicts in New Zealand making their fortune in the gold rush and experiencing the harsh life that comes with it.
The programme stars Dubliner Eve Hewson, EastEnders star Himesh Patel and actress Eva Green.
Up until the very last programme it's been hard to tell what was happening as the story flitted between past and present. Then the was the character's opium stupors and dim lighting... you nearly had to identify people by their teeth!
Viewers expressed their thoughts after the final credits rolled:
I think with decent editing and no jumping back and forth in the storyline, #TheLuminaries would have been received as an outstanding drama. What a shame, the acting was amazing, as was the storyline. The editing thoroughly spoiled it.

Would make more sense than the rest of the story. #TheLuminaries

All we needed to watch was the final 30 minutes of last episode, where the made up version of events made more sense than all of the actual events in the previous 5.5 episodes. Is that even right? #TheLuminaries
