Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda says any criticism of his hit musical is ''all fair game'' and admits he "did my best".
The 40-year-old American playwright, who created, wrote and starred in the popular Broadway musical about the titular American statesman Alexander Hamilton, has responded to claims he presented an idealised version of the Founding Fathers.
Following Disney+'s movie release of the hip hop musical on Friday, a filmed version of the popular Broadway musical, several critics accused Miranda of downplaying slavery.
Responding on Twitter, to Tracy Clayton, who said she would "have appreciated more context about Hamilton and slavery" Miranda said:
''All the criticisms are valid.
''The sheer tonnage of complexities & failings of these people I couldn't get. Or wrestled with but cut.
''I took 6 years and fit as much as I could in a 2.5 hour musical. Did my best. It's all fair game.''
Appreciate you so much, @brokeymcpoverty. All the criticisms are valid. The sheer tonnage of complexities & failings of these people I couldn't get. Or wrestled with but cut. I took 6 years and fit as much as I could in a 2.5 hour musical. Did my best. It’s all fair game. https://t.co/mjhU8sXS1U

In an interview with GQ Hype, Miranda, who wrote the award-winning musical inspired by the 2004 biography Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow, said he submitted the final cut for the live recording a few weeks ago.
''We didn't have a final edit. We didn't have a sound mix, which in a musical is pretty important. So we got to editing and then it just became like racing. We turned in the cut, like, two weeks ago," he said.
Miranda explained how his cast and crew were determined to release the film version to remind people of the "power of theatre" amid the Covid-19 crisis.
"Once it became clear there was not going to be any theatre for the foreseeable future, we all kind of pivoted and said, 'Oh, this is actually an opportunity to remind people of the power of theatre when there is none.' "
