Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd will star in a new Apple TV adaptation of the popular podcast The Shrink Next Door, following a fiercely-contested bidding war.
Two months after it went on the market, the much-anticipated TV adaptation will see Apple TV+ deliver an eight-episode series.
The comedy marks the first time Ferrell and Rudd will appear onscreen together since Anchorman 2.
Inspired by true events, The Shrink Next Door follows the decidedly odd relationship between celebrity psychiatrist Dr. Isaac Herschkopf (Rudd) and his patient Martin Markowitz, played by Ferrell.

During the course of their relationship, the suave doctor gradually overwhelms Martin’s private space to the point of moving into his home and taking control of his family business.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the series explores how an ostensibly normal doctor-patient relationship becomes a wholly exploitative dynamic, replete with manipulation, power games and outright dysfunction.
Ferrell was most recently seen in the excellent dark-and-light-then-dark-again ski resort movie, Downhill. Read our review here
