Carol Vorderman, the former Countdown presenter, has donated her private plane for the delivery of PPE (personal protective equipment) urgently needed by NHS personnel as the UK battles the coronavirus epidemic.

The 59-year old presenter took to Twitter to elaborate on her initiative.

"My Mildred and I (my aeroplane N242CV) have had some adventures BUT I want to tell you that right now she is being used by the amazing people at ⁦@BAESystemsAir⁩ to ferry PPE to where it's needed by our #NHS around the country."

Ms Vorderman recently unveiled a project which aims to teach mathematics to schoolchildren who are learning at home during this period of lock-down.

"I'm going to go on YouTube to have a maths school for adults," she told Piers Morgan and Lorraine Kelly on Good Morning Britain. "This is the thing I’m most proud of. "

Morgan was criticised for a remark he made during the interview about what Vorderman would choose to wear while presenting the tutorials.
