Actor Richard E. Grant has revealed that the biggest challenges of playing a drag queen in the film Everybody's Talking About Jamie was getting dressed and wearing heels.

Speaking to the Sunday Mirror newspaper, the 62-year-old said: ''I had a hard time in heels. I could not even stand in them, not after ten minutes. They were Jimmy Choo heels.

I was hobbling around like a 95-year-old. I was in agony. I don't know how women wear them. I will now wear flats permanently for the rest of my life.'' He added.

The Can You Ever Forgive Me actor said: ''It took me two hours to get into all my gear. I had lots of make-up for the part so when I had a drink I had to take sips through a straw.''

The Oscar nominated actor told the newspaper that: ''The transgender movement and the #MeToo movement means how can you justify heterosexual actors playing gay characters? We are in a historic moment."

He added: "If you want someone to play a disabled role, that should be a disabled actor.''

Grant attended the Oscars last year, describing the experience to Ray D'Arcy he said: "It's like Madame Tussauds come to life,"

"You see all these people except they're not waxworks - although actually some people do look like that, " he said, miming a face-lift. "And they smile from every direction.

"But you see people that I've admired all my life, all in the same place, and everybody is very friendly because at that point nobody knows whether you've lost yet. The majority of people don't go home with an award.

"I felt like it was a "win-win" for me because I met everybody that I wished to meet." he added.
