Scottish actor Robert Carlyle has said he would "love to do" a third Trainspotting film if director Danny Boyle was interested.

Speaking to the Big Issue magazine, The Full Monty actor said that author Irvine Welsh has left space for the character to "return" despite, last year Danny Boyle ruling out a third film, saying that he had no plans for one "at the moment."

The World Is Not Enough actor added: "I am interested. Because there is space for the character to grow. And there is another book, The Blade Artist, almost exclusively about Begbie.

The Angela's Ashes actor said: "In terms of the narrative it is one of Irvine's best. Because you know this character so well - and certainly I know the character very well - you buy it."

"It is a scenario I know to be true - infamous figures have gone into prison and found art and come out as a different being. The Human Trafficking actor added.

Carlyle played Franco in Trainspotting 1 and its sequel T2.
