Liam Payne has spoken about becoming a dad at 23-years-old, admitting that "it kind of messed me up to start with".
The former One Direction star shares two-year-old son Bear with ex Girls Aloud star Cheryl Tweedy and revealed the difficulties he faced welcoming a child in his early twenties.
In an interview for the upcoming Sky One documentary Ant Middleton & Liam Payne: Straight Talking, he said: "Becoming a dad at such a young age, it's such a difficult thing.
"And I think I built fatherhood up so much in my head that it kind of messed me to up start with. I started in a bad place with it.
"I think it spooked me out early on, and I was just worried I would not be enough to look after the both of them."
The singer also spoke about his relationship with his ex girlfriend Cheryl since they split in 2018 following a two-year romance.
"Even though we're not together, Cheryl’s always there for me. I’m lucky I have someone who understands what I’m going through," he said.
"The one thing I was missing as a man in the relationship I had, was a level understanding about what she was feeling about stuff."
"I think I learnt through being away that, while I want to protect her, there's a big part of her that wants to protect me", he added.
Payne recently revealed that public scrutiny put a strain on his relationship with Cheryl.
Ant Middleton & Liam Payne: Straight Talking will air on Tuesday, November 12 at 9pm on Sky One.
