The upcoming fifth season of First Dates Ireland will welcome back daters from previous series of the show, maitre d' Mateo Saina has revealed.

The much-loved dating show follows groups of hopefuls looking for love over the course of dinner in central Dublin.

The popularity of the series continues unabated as over 4,000 people applied to take part in the upcoming run.

Speaking to RTÉ Entertainment at the RTÉ New Season Launch, Mateo gave a hint of what viewers can expect from the fifth season.

"We have returners which we cannot say [who]", he teased.

Alice Marr gave more clues: "We've got a great double date. We have a father-and-daughter double date. Good fun!"

"Enough now!", Mateo warned before they gave too much away.

Libby Russell credited the continuing success of the show to the varied contestants taking part.

"They always bring something new every year, it's all down to them", she said.

Alice continued: "They're just getting more and more into people's stories I think and really getting a sense of that, and finding more dynamic people."

When asked if it is difficult not to get emotionally invested in the dates, Libby replied: "Oh we're definitely invested in them."

"Completely, we're cheering them on", Alice agreed.

Mateo said with a laugh: "I have [First Dates barman] Ethan, I'm emotionally invested in Ethan. The drama is there!"

The fifth series of First Dates Ireland will air on RTÉ Two in early 2020.
