Former Home And Away actor Ben Unwin, who played bad-boy Jesse McGregor from 1996-2000 and 2002-2005, has died aged 41.

New South Wales Police have confirmed that Sydney-born actor Ben Unwin died at his home at Minyon Falls, south of Brisbane, on August 14. The death is not being treated as suspicious.

Unwin was best known for his role as Jesse McGregor on Australian soap Home And Away. He had originally auditioned for a different part but ended up playing the Summer Bay bad boy after the character was written specifically for him.

Some of Jesse's most memorable storylines involved the burning down of the bait shop and dodgy dealings with Mick Dwyer (John Brumpton) which lead to a dangerous car chase from the police.

Unwin was nominated for a British National Television Award in 1997 for Most Popular Newcomer and Most Popular New Talent at the Australian 1997 Logie Awards.

Unwin left the show in 2005 to pursue a career as a solicitor. He also worked in the music industry directing videos for Culture Club including their singles I Just Wanna Be Loved and Your Kisses Are Charity.

In a statement Australian television network Seven said: "Cast and crew from Home and Away are saddened to learn of the passing of former castmate Ben Unwin. Ben's work in the role of Jesse McGregor is remembered with much affection. Ben's family and friends are in our thoughts and prayers."
