Fans have reacted with bemusement at the news that Disney plans to reboot the 1990 Macaulay Culkin-starring classic Home Alone.

Chief executive Bob Iger revealed there would be "reimaginations" of films including the much-loved Christmas classic Home Alone, Night at the Museum, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and Cheaper by the Dozen for the studio's upcoming streaming service, Disney+.

However, many commentators have taken umbrage at the thoughts of remaking Home Alone.

One fan tweeted: "Home Alone is a classic. Just leave it alone", while another wrote "leave home ALONE."

Another observers pointed out sagely: "How you gonna remake #HomeAlone when 2019 Kevin can just text his Mom or catch an Uber."

The Lion King is the latest Disney film to be given the remake treatment, 25 years after the original became a film classic.
