Love Island winner Greg O'Shea has said he was left "speechless" by the welcome he received at Shannon Airport when he returned home on Wednesday.

The Limerick rugby player, who won the ITV reality show with British beauty therapist Amber Gill, was greeted with cheers and screams from the fans who had gathered in the arrivals hall for his return from London.

"There's that many people I can't even count them," he said.

"I literally just thought my family and friends would be here. This is just amazing. I love the people of Limerick."

"I've landed here at Shannon many times but it was hard to believe today how much has happened since I left," Greg reflected. "I'm really delighted to be home. It really has been a whirlwind of a few weeks.

"Three weeks ago, I was just finished the Rugby Europe Olympic Qualifier in France, a few days later I walked onto Love Island [and] met Amber Gill and ten days later again we walked away as winners."

Earlier in the day, the Corbally man had revealed that he would not be accompanied home by his Love Island love interest, but said on social media he would see her again "very soon".

"Amber's at home working. She's a very busy girl... I'll definitely get her over soon. 100%," he told reporters at Shannon.

The reality show winners added to the mystery about their relationship when they appeared on ITV's Loose Women on Tuesday and were asked about their "exclusively dating" tag.

"We're exclusively dating, but we're not official yet," Amber explained.

"You have to remember we only met each other for the first time on July 15," said Greg.

Amber admitted that Greg "hasn't asked us yet" about going official.

With some of the Loose Women panel confused about the "exclusively dating" concept, Greg assured them things were going well.

"We're definitely going in the right direction," he said. "I can definitely see us getting there, but we haven't known each other a full month yet.

"She needs to meet my friends and family.... I've met her family and friends - absolutely lovely people, really welcoming - but she hasn't met any of my friends yet."
