Viewers have been swooning over Ovie's heartwarming admission in Thursday night's episode of Love Island, when he selflessly said he thought his role in the villa was as Amber's "guardian angel" instead of finding romance for himself.

Ovie and India were among the couples who were whisked away for a romantic date, where he admitted he wasn't sure a relationship was on the cards for him before he coupled up with the model, who was a latecomer to the show.

As they enjoyed their final date in a candlelit courtyard, he told India, "At one point, it looked like I wasn't going to be in a romantic couple at all.

"I felt like I just had the role of the guardian angel over Amber."

Needless to say, the comment hit home with viewers at home.

Meanwhile, Limerick rugby player Greg O'Shea and Amber Gill had a romantic date aboard a luxury boat at sea, where they had a candid conversation.

"I'm just so happy to be here with you," he told her. "I feel really fortunate to have come in and met you."

"When we first met, I had an instant connection and that is something that I never get," she replied.

Amber gushed about the date to the girls when she returned to the villa, saying: "It was so romantic. Out of all the dates I've been on, that was the best one, definitely by far. We were just lying like this, just having a nice chilled chat.

"You know what he's like, Irish people, they're so charming. I can't help myself. I really didn't think I would meet anyone like him, I was just saying to him that I'm so glad I stuck it out and I met him." 

Greg was similarly effusive about the date, telling the boys: "I'm just an Irish lad from Limerick. That girl and that boat is just the stuff of movies, and she looked amazing. It was unreal.

"I honestly didn't think I'd be this close to someone this quick, but I couldn't help it with her. It sounds so soppy, but it's true."

After watching the date, many viewers were backing the couple to win the competition.

Longford's Maura Higgins also poured her heart out to dancer Curtis Pritchard when they went on their final date in Thursday's episode, telling him: "I like everything about you."
