Ed Sheeran has confirmed he and partner Cherry Seaborn are married in a video to mark the release of the singer-songwriter's new all-star album, No 6 Collaborations Project.

Speculation has continued for months about the marital status of Sheeran and Seaborn, and in Sheeran's video with Charlamagne The God on his YouTube channel he put fans straight.

When discussing the lyrics - "Watch how the lyrics in the songs might get twisted / My wife wears red, but looks better without the lipstick" - in his Eminem and 50 Cent collaboration Remember the Name, Sheeran explained he had written the lines before walking down the aisle.

"It was actually before me and Cherry got married and I knew that we'd be married by the point that the song came out," he said.

"[I thought] Someone's gonna hear that and be like, 'Oh, they're married!' I didn't know how that would be construed, but obviously it's already come out."

In February, British tabloid The Sun claimed that Sheeran and Seaborn had wed at Christmas.

"Ed got married a few days before Christmas," an unnamed source claimed. "It was very quiet - just Ed's oldest school pals, limited family and the priest.

"There were only 40 people - so no Taylor Swift, record company executives or any royals or pop star pals. He wanted no fuss and he wanted it to be something entirely for them - just a tiny winter wedding."

"It's amazing that he's the biggest pop star in the world but he was just able to quietly slide off and wed," the source added.

"Neither of them were [sic] that fussed about making a big deal about it. Cherry just wanted to get it out of the way without any problems or intrusions."

Sheeran and Seaborn's engagement was announced in January 2018.
